Ho Chi Minh City uses 120k flower pots for Tet Flower Street

Ho Chi Minh City uses 120k flower pots for Tet Flower Street

Saturday, February 14, 2015, 11:32 GMT+7

About 120,000 pots of flowers of varied species are being installed in preparation for the 2015 Tet Flower Street on Ham Nghi Street in District 1, Ho Chi Minh City.

Tet, which is the Vietnamese term for the Lunar New Year, kicks off on February 19 this year.

The flowers have been gathered from several places across the country, including Sa Dec City in the southern province of Dong Thap, Da Lat City in the Central Highlands province of Lam Dong, and some plant companies in Ho Chi Minh City.

The flower street has grown into one of the city’s highlights during Tet – the Southeast Asian country’s largest traditional holiday – and receives millions of tourists, including foreigners, each year.

This year, it will stretch 510 meters from Pho Duc Chinh Street near the landmark Ben Thanh Market to Ho Tung Mau Street.

Chiem Thanh Long, director of Binh Quoi Tourist Village, the main contractor of the 2015 Tet Flower Street, told Tuoi Tre (Youth) newspaper that the installation and decoration of flowers at the venue has been considered carefully because the sun and wind conditions on Ham Nghi Street are different from those on Nguyen Hue Street.

In previous years, the Tet Flower Street was set up on Nguyen Hue Street but this year it is moved to Ham Nghi due to the construction of a subway station.

“We ensure that we will finish the flower street perfectly on time on the morning of February 15 [the 28th day of the twelfth lunar month] so that the festival will officially kick off in the evening of that day,” Long confirmed.

Truong Van Dung, a staffer at the Binh Quoi Tourist Village, who has 12-year experience in constructing the flower street said he has a feeling that this year’s flower street will be more beautiful than previous years’, adding that the new venue will bring visitors new and different feelings.

The 2015 Flower Street Festival on Ham Nghi Street will run until February 22 (the 4th day of the next lunar year).

Accordingly, vehicles traveling on Ham Nghi running from the Quach Thi Trang Roundabout to Ton Duc Thang Street will be halted from 7:00 am on February 6 to 6:00 am on February 23.

Another annual flower festival at Tao Dan Park in District 1 kicked off on February 13. This year, the event showcases more than 4,000 ornamental objects including plants, flowers, and fish. One of the different points of this year’s festival compared with previous fests is an area displaying high-tech agricultural products. The festival will run until February 24.
