Four students drown in central Vietnam

The four were part of a group of eight students hanging out at Bai Dai Beach on Sunday

Four eight-graders were found dead from drowning after swimming at a beach in south-central Vietnam on Sunday.

The drownings happened at Bai Dai Beach in Cam Ranh City under south-central Khanh Hoa Province, confirmed Nguyen Manh Thien, deputy chairman of a ward in the city.

The four were part of a group of eight students hanging out at Bai Dai Beach on Sunday.

As they were swimming, the four victims drowned after being swept away from the shore by strong currents.

Rescuers promptly arrived at the scene, attempted to save two of the victims, and sent them to the hospital.

However, the two did not make it through.

By 8:00 pm on Sunday, the body of the third victim had been recovered, while the fourth was found around 9:00 am on Monday.

Local authorities have visited the victims' families and offered their condolences.

Bai Dai Beach is deemed an unsafe space for swimming due to strong currents and vortexes, according to locals.

Relevant agencies have planted warning signs along the beach to advise visitors against swimming there.
