Frescos give facelift to old back-alley in Da Nang

Artists aspire to create a space that is linking the city with its past days

A group of Vietnamese people have been drawing murals on the walls of an alley in the center of Da Nang City in order to beautify this small area.

The first paintings of the project have appeared along the 75th passage, intersecting Nguyen Van Linh Street in Phuoc Ninh Ward, Hai Chau District.

Painters from the city’s association of artists and local volunteer students are participating in the activity.

The artists intend to have covered the 1,500-square-meter wall surface here by March with frescos on the themes of Da Nang people, folk games and traditional festivals.

Residents along the back-alley are willing to give them a helping hand, by scraping walls in front of their houses for example.

During the creation of the murals the surrounding has also been taken into account in order to keep the colors in harmony with the neighboring buildings and trees.

The artists hope that the paintings will transform the alley into a cultural space harking back to an old version of Da Nang, and bring about improvement in the local people’s awareness of the city’s beauty.
