Vietnam Prime Minister admits mistakes

Vietnamese Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung this morning frankly admitted mistakes and weaknesses in government management in recent times, accepting major political responsibilities especially those concerning economic management related to two giant state-run companies.
The Prime Minister admitted his responsibilities to the National Assembly, the country’s central law-making body, after presenting the Government report on “Economic, social situation in 2012 and tasks in 2013” in Hanoi.
The government leader said: “In the past days, the Party civil affairs committee of the Government and of different ministries and all members of the Government have seriously made self criticisms in the spirit of the Central Resolution 4, Session 11. The collective Party civil affairs committee and each comrade seriously look at weaknesses, faults and sincerely draw from them valuable lessons in carrying out assigned tasks and in our whole revolutionary activities.
“A member of the Politburo and Government Prime Minister, I earnestly accept major political responsibilities as head of the Government and sincerely admit mistakes in front of the National Assembly, the whole Party, the whole people regarding all weaknesses, faults of the Government in leadership, control, management especially weaknesses and faults in inspection and supervision of activities of economic groups, of state-owned corporations; the case in point is Vinashin, Vinalines that conducted bad businesses, had many wrongdoings, causing serious losses and consequences in many aspects, seriously affecting the reputation and role of the state economy”, PM Dung said.
The Prime Minister made the resolution that the Government, he himself and each member of the Government will seriously be strict with themselves, will stand united and strive the utmost in rectifying those weaknesses, all for the nation, for the people, for the Party, for the regime, for the stability and sustainable development of the country.
Under the leadership of the Central Party, the whole Party, soldiers, people, the whole political system have to work together to implement successfully the plan for 2013 and the five year plan of 2011-2015.
The government needs the support and supervision of the National Assembly, the Vietnam Fatherland Front, the whole people and comrades, the Prime Minister added.
The fourth session of the 13th National Assembly opened Hanoi today where deputies are expected to examine the Government report on the socio-economic development plan.
During the month-long sitting, the deputies will offer comments on the draft revisions to the 1992 Constitution, and expected to adopt a resolution on procedures to collect confidence votes for positions elected and approved by the National Assembly and local People’s Councils.
At this session, nine revised laws on lawyers, electricity, tax management, personal income tax, national reserves, cooperatives, publication, the capital city, and anti-corruption, are expected to be debated and ratified.
Six other bills, including the amended laws on land, science and technology, and prevention and mitigation of natural disasters, the anti-terrorism, security-defense education and grassroots mediation laws will be tabled for garnering comments.
