Politics | At its regular meeting on June 28, the Government debated the revised Law on Customs. Cabinet members agreed that the proposed amendments to the law will aim to comprehensively renovate customs procedures, which must be modern and suitable to international practice, and create a legal framework for modernizing customs activities towards an open, transparent and effective customs. Also at the meeting, the Government discussed contents of the draft law on entry, exit and residence of foreigners in Vietnam.Society

-- Packing winds of up to 74 kph, tropical storm Rumbia is moving northeast in the East Sea and will likely get stronger. It is moving northwest at 15-20kph and will be located south of the Philippines’ Luzon Island at 7 am Sunday, with winds of  up to 88 kph and gusts of 87-102 kph. The storm will then move faster, at 20-25 km, and at 7am on July 1 it will be seen 570 km east-northeast of Vietnam’ Hoang Sa (Paracel) archipelago.

-- The Da Nang City Department of Information and Communications has fined Ban Tin Viet Company, who owns the news website at vntimes.com, VND5 million (U$$240) for its copyright violation. This site has used information and images of other news sites without their prior approval. Meanwhile, Hanoi Department of Information and Communications said it has handled 10 news websites for similar violations so far this year. -- A 58-year-old man in southern Hau Giang Province died of H5N1 flu on Thursday, nine days after he contracted the deadly virus, local health authorities reported. Mewnahile,  three patients with H1N1 flu in Ca Mau have been transferred to HCMC for further treatment.

-- A 26-year-old woman and her two children were found died in their rented house in Ho Chi Minh City’s Binh Chanh District at 11 am on Friday. The woman was found hanging dead while the children laid dead on the floor. Locals said that the woman had killed her children before hanging herself. Police are investigating the case.

-- Foot and mouth disease has broken out in two communes and a town in Lam Dong Province since mid May, affecting 36 buffalos and cows and killed 12 of them, authorities reported. Veterinary Sub-department have provided medicines against the disease to local residents in the affected areas and take measures to prevent the spread of the disease.

-- Sixty-six people have recovered after suffering food poisoning at a wedding party in Tho Xuan District, Thanh Hoa Province on June 24. They were taken to a local hospital after developing vomiting, headaches, belly pain and dizziness a couples of hours after the party.  Business -- After days of decline, the price of gold in Vietnam has rebounded with a teal of gold sold for VND37-37.2 million (US$1,788) yesterday afternoon. However, such a price is still higher than the world price by VND6 million per tael (1.2 ounce).

Sports -- The Vietnamese Men’s Futsal team defeated their Palestine rivals 4-1 on June 28 evening at the fourth Asian Indoor and Martial Arts Games (AIMAG). Meanwhile, the Vietnamese Women’s Futsal team lost 0-1 in its match against Iran earlier the same day.
