Police in Hanoi booked more than 3,500 facilities for fire safety violations and issued fines worth nearly VND29 billion (US$1.1 million) over the past month.
Under the direction of the Ministry of Public Security and the Hanoi People’s Committee, the municipal Department of Public Security inspected the fire safety systems at nearly 65,890 establishments between October 15 and November 12.
Officers detected a total of 4,431 violations of fire safety regulations at 3,522 facilities and issued fines totaling nearly VND29 billion.
They also asked local authorities to cease 338 facilities and temporarily suspend 643 others over their serious violations.
Le Hong Son, standing vice-chairman of the Hanoi People's Committee, praised the municipal Department of Public Security for their efforts.
Son asked the department to continue examining fire safety measures at other establishments in the capital city and impose suitable penalties if violations are detected.
Officers must also make sure that local facilities do not repeat their violations, the official stated.
