Hanoi re-enacts moments on liberation day 70 years ago

Hanoi celebrated the 70th anniversary of its Liberation Day

Hanoi authorities on Sunday morning held a parade which re-enacted moments when the Vietnamese capital was adorned with national flags and flowers to welcome the liberation army in 1954.

The re-enactment was meant to celebrate the 70th anniversary of Hanoi's Liberation Day (October 10, 1954 - October 10, 2024) and 25 years since UNESCO bestowed upon the capital the 'City for Peace' title (July 16, 1999 - July 16, 2024).

The parade was part of the 'Cultural Festival for Peace' held in Hoan Kiem District and attended by Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh, Permanent Member of the Party Central Committee's Secretariat Luong Cuong, and many other central and municipal leaders.

Chairman of the Hanoi People's Committee Tran Sy Thanh stated at the festival that the event was aimed at spreading the values of culture, peace, and creativity of Hanoians throughout the ages.

The festival also promoted the capital city’s culture and heritage, the official noted.

Some 10,000 people participated in the fest, including 700 domestic and international delegates and 9,000 people joining the parade, according to the municipal government.
