Haunting photos of flood-hit village in northern Vietnam

The disaster had left 43 people dead and 52 others missing as of 11:00 am on Thursday

As of 11:00 am on Thursday, rescuers had found the bodies of 43 people who had died in a flash flood that swept through a mountainous village in Lao Cai Province, northern Vietnam on Tuesday, said a local official.

Nu Villagee in Phuc Khanh Commune, Bao Yen District, Lao Cai Province had been home to 37 households and 158 residents prior to the flood.

In addition to the 43 deceased victims, 17 Nu Village residents are currently receiving medical treatment and 52 others are still missing, said Duong Duc Huy, head of the Information and Education Committee of Lao Cai Province.

On Thursday morning, 650 people were mobilized to search for the missing victims.

Electricity to Nu Village resumed at 5:10 pm on Wednesday.
