High tides are expected to reach a peak and submerge parts of Ho Chi Minh City at the beginning of next week, the Southern Region Hydro-meteorological Observatory forecast on Friday.
The tide level measured at Nha Be Station near the Dong Dien River is projected to soar to 1.76 meters by 5:00 pm next Monday, approximating to the record level of 1.77 meters on the afternoon of September 30, 2019.
Likewise, the water level recorded at Phu An Station near the Saigon River is expected to rise to 1.75 meters for both Monday morning and afternoon.
Rains triggered by wind disturbance threaten flooding in Ho Chi Minh City’s low-lying and riverfront areas on Monday and Tuesday afternoon.
In response to the high tide turns, the municipal Disaster Prevention and Rescue Command urgently requested district authorities and related departments to check on embankments, culverts, and tide valves.
They have to prepare materials to reinforce embankments in critical places.
Besides, rescue workers are requested to prepare portable water pumps to promptly respond in flooded areas.
