Retired Vietnamese footballer allegedly kills daughters before suicide

A former football player in the southern Vietnamese province of An Giang has purportedly murdered his two young daughters before taking his own life.

Nguyen Xuan Binh, 31, previously a memer of the provincial football club, is suspected of killing both of his daughters, a five-year-old and an-eight-year-old, prior to committing suicide, after the three were found dead at their home on Sunday morning.

At around 8:00 am, T., Binh’s father-in-law, arrived at their residence in My Khanh Commune, Long Xuyen City, the capital of An Giang, to visit his grandchildren.

As T. was unable to enter the house, which was locked from the inside, he asked for the help of local neighbors to break open the door.

The man discovered the bodies of his granddaughters upon entering the house, before rushing upstairs to find Binh hanging dead, with several injuries to his arms and legs.

Binh was born in Ho Chi Minh City and was signed by the An Giang football club as a central back between 2005 and 2008.

He retired after getting married and started a business selling home appliances in Long Xuyen.

According to his neighbors, Binh was friendly and kind to others, and took care of everything, from housework to looking after his children to running his business operation.

Binh had recently posted a status on his personal Facebook page, referring to his wife’s misconduct prior to the incident, his friends said.

The man’s wife had also filed for divorce papers about 10 days before his death, the friends said, adding that the couple had been arguing ever since.

Initial investigations showed that Binh poisoned his daughters before hanging himself due to the conflict in his marriage, Colonel Le Van Tien, deputy director of the provincial Department of Police, said.

A suicide note was also found at his house, in which Binh expressed his resentment towards his wife having an affair and extended his apologies to his birth parents and parents in law, Col. Tien added.

The case is still under investigation.
