An American septuagenarian was found dead in a hotel room early on Sunday morning in the central coast city of Da Nang.

The body was identified as that of Willard Raymond Wirtse, 78, an American national, police said, citing initial reports that the man, along with his relative, had checked in for the night at K.N. Hotel on Nguyen Tat Thanh Street on Saturday.

The man was found dead in his room by his relative, who immediately reported his death to police.

Police from Thanh Khe District and specialized units from Da Nang City arrived at the scene to investigate and have the corpse transferred for autopsy.

According to an investigator, it was likely that the man had died from natural causes as he had suffered from severe diabetes.
