An elusive book-pirating website changes content

An elusive book-pirating website changes content

Tuesday, April 23, 2013, 15:34 GMT+7

Immediately following a Tuoi Tre article regarding the illegal operation of the website http://thuvien247.net, which has sold the e-format of up to 20,000 books to the public without author consent, the website has entirely changed its content and interface.

A click onto http://thuvien247.net will get viewers moved to a new address http://thitruong.thuvien247.net, a blog with posts about bank credits. However, the link blog.thuvien247.net still carries links to the pirated books’ abstracts and how to buy the books online.

Recently, a number of local authors were stunned to see their books pirated and sold on the former website.

All these books have been scanned and are sold as e-books for VND14,000 (US$0.7) each without the consent of their authors, bringing the web owner considerable profits.

No license number was posted on the website, which again violates Vietnamese laws on the operation of online forums.
