Two women in Hanoi are in custody, while two others are wanted by police, for beating and humiliating a young woman after assuming she had an affair with one of the attackers' husband.
Hoang Thi Anh, 27, and Vu Thi Van Anh, 22, both residing in Ha Dong District, were detained by police on Wednesday afternoon after attacking and insulting 19-year-old M.T.A.
Assuming A. was having an affair with Van Anh’s husband, the two women recruited two other friends to help them hunt down and carry out the attack.
At around 4:00 pm, the group spotted A. at a local supermarket before confronting her and dragging her out of the venue.
Several by-standers caught the assault on video and later uploaded the footage to social media the same day.
The pieces of recording showed that the four attackers were cursing A., grabbing the woman’s hair, slapping her face and kicking in her stomach.
The four went on to unbutton her shirt and continued their rampage, even after the victim was on the ground begging to be let go.
While some onlookers intervened, their attempts to stop the violence proved unsuccessful.
The beating lasted about 30 minutes before local police were notified and later arrived to arrest Thi Anh and Van Anh. The other two attackers had already left the scene.
A. suffered bleeding from her mouth and several scratches on her face, claiming that her gold necklace was taken during the assault.
The victim added that she and Van Anh’s husband had ended their romantic relationship a few months ago.
Competent authorities are gathering statements from the suspects and searching for the other two women.
