-- According to a bill prepared by the Vietnamese Ministry of Construction, foreign contractors would not be allowed to bring unskilled workers to work for their projects in Vietnam.

-- Authorities in the central city of Da Nang will step up their supervision of investment activities in maritime border areas.

-- A family chartered a two-way flight operated by Vietnam Airlines from Ho Chi Minh City to the southernmost province of Ca Mau to organize a wedding party on Monday. According to the carrier, the average price of a one-way charter flight using the ATR-72 plane is around VND200 million (US$8,900).

-- Rainwater caused a traffic jam on many streets in Ho Chi Minh City following a downpour on Monday afternoon. The rain also made several flights delayed since planes could not land at Tan Son Nhat Airport International Airport on time.

-- Herds of wild elephants have repeatedly attacked farms in hilly villages and tamed elephants in the Central Highlands province of Dak Lak.

-- Sea water has penetrated deeply into 40 percent of the rice field area, or 620,000 hectares, of the winter-spring crops in the Mekong Delta of Vietnam.

-- Hundreds of construction projects in the center of an urban area in Cua Lo Town, Vinh City, located in the north-central province of Nghe An, have been left inactive for a decade.

-- Total bad debts in Ho Chi Minh City are now VND49,714 billion (US$2.2 billion), accounting for 4.23 percent of the outstanding loans. It is estimated that the rate of bad debt will fall to around two percent by the end of this year, according to Nguyen Hoang Minh, vice director of the Ho Chi Minh City branch of the State Bank of Vietnam.

-- Vietnam has been coordinating with foreign airlines to launch new international and domestic routes, such as Phnom Penh – Vientiane – Hanoi, Nha Trang – Hai Phong, Vinh – Buon Ma Thuot, and Chu Lai – Buon Ma Thuot.

-- French opera singer Sophie Leleu will work with the Ho Chi Minh City ballet and symphony theater to perform the classic opera Carmen in the city, at 8:00 pm on November 8-9.
