A telemedicine system has been installed to provide for distant collaboration between military hospitals in Vietnam and Cambodia.
The telecommunication and information technology was officially introduced during a ceremony, chaired by Major General Do Nang Tinh, deputy head of the General Logistical Department under Vietnam’s Ministry of National Defense on Thursday morning.
The telemedicine system will link Vietnam’s 175 Military Hospital and Preah Ket Mealea Hospital, a medical center under the management of the Royal Cambodian Armed Forces (RCAF).
Ly So Van, deputy head of the logistical department under the RCAF and director of the Preah Ket Mealea Hospital, Major General Nguyen Hong Son, director of the 175 Hospital, and other leaders from both infirmaries were among those in attendance at the event.
During the event, doctors from both medical institutions applied the telemedicine system to a distant consultation and surgery on two patients who suffered kidney stone and pleurisy.
According to Maj. Gen. Tinh, the results showed that the technology could ensure high-quality sound and images thanks to excellent technical standards.
The installment of the system will improve the ability of the two hospitals to effectively cooperate in distant consultation, exchange of techniques, and offer professional assistance.
It will also help tighten the unity and friendship between the two hospitals, armies, and nations, the military official added.
Doctor performance will be greatly improved and the quality of treatment and recovery at both institutions will rise, said Maj. Gen. Son, director of the 175 Hospital.
