Vietnam willing to cooperate with other countries in environmental protection: President

Vietnamese President Truong Tan Sang told ASEAN chief justices that Vietnam is willing to share and learn from other countries’ experience in environmental protection activities.

>> Southern hub to invest $524mn more in environment sanitation The leader made the statement in a reception held in Hanoi last Saturday for delegates of the fourth ASEAN Roundtable on the Role of the Judiciary in Environmental Protection opened on the same day in Vietnam’s capital city, the Vietnam News Agency said. President Sang also said that close cooperation among member countries will strengthen and expand their ties in handling environmental challenges in the future. At the reception, chief justices and senior members of the judiciaries hailed Vietnam’s organization of the event, which demonstrates the country’s special attention to addressing environmental problems. They also said that through the two-day Roundtable, the participating nations will gain more experience in improving their legal systems, especially courts’ judging role in environment protection.

The Vietnamese leader told his guests that the Roundtable serves as a forum for member countries to discuss effective measures to deal with environmental challenges, exchange relevant expertise, and share their law regarding environmental protection. President Sang emphasized that ASEAN, with a population of more than 600 million, will become more united and active in supporting member nations’ development once a common community is formed next year. He also said he hoped that more creative measures would be initiated at the Roundtable for the sustainable development of the region. The 4th Roundtable was co-organized by the Supreme People’s Court of Vietnam and the Asian Development Bank (ADB).
