A street decorated with thousands of colorful lanterns has been opened to visitors in the central coastal city of Da Nang since the weekend and it is thus ready for the upcoming National Day celebration, according to the Vietnam Government Portal.

The 1.1km lantern road, opening on August 29 on Phan Dang Luu Street in Hai Chau District, is meant to become a good choice for tourists during National Day (September 2) and the Mid-Autumn Festival.

Embellished with more than 3,000 colorful lanterns, it currently holds the title of Vietnam’s longest lantern road, given by the Vietnam Record Association on Saturday.

The street’s central area features Vietnam’s traditional paper lanterns while the other sections display artworks which reflect the culture of Japan, Indonesia, and Singapore.

All lanterns were made by nearly 100 well known artisans from Hoi An, an ancient town in central Vietnam, for over one month, according to news website VnExpress.

Numerous activities are being organized from now until September 27, including games, lion dance, and drum performances, to serve locals and tourists in Da Nang, especially children.

The Mid-Autumn Festival falls on September 27 this year.
