Bee stings allegedly kill Korean tourist in Da Nang

A 26-year-old South Korean female tourist is suspected to have been killed by bees while going sightseeing on Ba Na Hills, a popular destination in the central city of Da Nang.

Choi Jiyeon was hospitalized in a state of severe respiratory failure and heart failure at the Da Nang Hospital at 7pm on July 20. Doctors failed to save her.

Dr. Tran Ngoc Thanh, director of Da Nang hospital, confirmed the death of a South Korean tourist at the hospital but he added the exact cause of the death remains unknown and he has yet to receive any report that the tourist was stung to death by bees while she visited Ba Na Hills.

“We did the utmost and tried all means to save her. She was in the ICU from the evening of July 20 to the morning of July 21 but we failed to save her because her heart repeatedly stopped beating”, he told Dat Viet Newspaper.

Choi Jiyeon was reportedly attacked by a swam of bees when she visited a forest on Ba Na Hills located in Hoa Ninh commune, Hoa Vang district.

Le Thi Thu Hanh, deputy director of Da Nang’s Foreign Office, also confirmed the death of a South Korean tourist at Da Nang hospital.

Ba Na Hills is a hill station and resort located in the Truong Son Mountains west of the Da Nang city. The station is at an elevation of 1,485 meters above sea level.
