Multiple makeshift ferry wharves have mushroomed along the Vietnam-Cambodia border, providing free transport for Vietnamese citizens who want to gamble at Cambodian casinos.
These ferries can be spotted near the Long Binh Bridge, which connects Cambodia’s Kan Danl Province and the Mekong Delta province of An Giang.
Since the bridge was opened to traffic two years ago, several casinos have been established on Cambodia’s side of the borderline.
A makeshift parking lot has formed on the Vietnamese side, along with the ferry wharves.

Guests of the casinos are able to travel across the river between the two countries without any fare.
They only have to pay the parking fee, which is VND5,000 (US$0.21) per motorbike and VND50,000 ($2) to VND100,000 ($4) per automobile.
During an interview with Tuoi Tre (Youth) newspaper, local authorities said they had not been aware of the situation.

After reviewing the photos taken by the reporters, the officials stated that managing the border area is under the authority of border gate officers.
According to Colonel Nguyen Thuong Le, head of the border gate office in An Giang Province, there are three casinos on Cambodia’s side of the boundary.
“I will order an investigation into the case. However, local administrations should also examine the legitimacy of the makeshift parking lot,” Col. Le added.
