A man from Ho Chi Minh City has been fined for attacking a woman who was in charge of collecting car parking fees in downtown areas.
In a report sent to the city’s chairman, the People’s Committee in District 1 stated that it had imposed a VND6.5 million (US$271) upon Nguyen Hoang Tam, 32, for harming the health of others.
The incident took place on Thu Khoa Huan Street in District 1 at around 2:00 pm on September 2, when Dang Lam Ngoc Tuyet was instructing people to use the My Parking app to pay their parking fees.
Tam then approached and had an argument with Tuyet, before hitting her in the face.
Tuyet was then taken to the hospital and diagnosed with a broken nose and bruises around her eye and lips.
During a working session with police officers, Tam admitted to attacking Tuyet, stating that his violence arose from a misunderstanding.
Tuyet also confirmed it was a misunderstanding and agreed not to request criminal prosecution after Tam had offered to pay VND1.7 million ($71) worth of the victim’s medical bills.
Tam thus received an administrative fine for harming the health of others and was not criminally charged.
Car drivers in Ho Chi Minh City are allowed to park their vehicles for a fee along 20 streets in District 1, District 5, and District 3.
These routes offer a total of 822 parking lots.
