Newly renovated parks inaugurated in downtown Ho Chi Minh City

Me Linh Park and Bach Dang Wharf Park were officially inaugurated on Thursday following recent renovations

The Ho Chi Minh City Department of Construction organized a ceremony on Thursday morning to inaugurate the new and improved Me Linh Park and Bach Dang Wharf Park in District 1.

The two parks are part of a plan to gentrify the city center and create an area along the Saigon River with both cultural and historic values.

These venues are considered significant cultural destinations of the southern metropolis, Vu Van Diep, director of the Infrastructure Management Center under the municipal transport department, said at the ceremony, adding that they had been degraded prior to the gentrification.

The new Bach Dang Wharf Park opened to the public in late January and has so far attracted a lot of visitors, Diep continued.

“The transport department has received a lot of feedback from local residents and will continue to make improvements to the venue,” he said.

With regard to Me Linh Park, the renovation made few changes to the original architecture, the official continued, adding that the revamp of the Tran Hung Dao statue was the most prioritized task and required input from professional agencies and leading experts.

Located on Ton Duc Thang Street, the renovated park includes the statue of Tran Hung Dao in the center, along with a lighting system and 5,700 square meters of green space.

The 3,300-square-meter area surrounding the statue is covered with granite tiles.

The renovation of both Me Linh Park and Bach Dang Wharf Park was funded by the private sector.
