Vietnam’s largest dairy company Vinamilk was named Tuesday among the winners of the 4th IUFoST Global Food Industry Awards, which honored global food innovators for their creative work in the areas of packaging design, nutrition, enterprise, food safety, and products. Vinamilk, fully known as Vietnam Dairy Products JSC, received the award from the International Union of Food Science and Technology (IUFoST) at the 17th World Congress of Food Science and Technology & Expo, taking place from August 17 to 21 in Montreal, Canada. Nominations were assessed by a global panel and Vinamilk’s liquid milk products outplayed more than 100 nominees from 73 countries to win the award. Vinamilk is honored for its innovation in food processing and the communication of science-related knowledge to consumers through the firm’s products. “This is particularly meaningful for the development of Vietnamese children,” Professor Luu Duan, general secretary of the Vietnam Association of Food Science and Technology, remarked. The state-owned dairy producer reported more than VND31.7 trillion (US$1.49 billion) in revenue in 2013. Another Vietnamese company, Hoan Ngoc Tea 7 Nga Tay Ninh, also won the Global Food Industry Awards in the product and/or process innovation category for its tea products, made from hoan ngoc (Preuderantherum PalaliFerum Radlk) – a precious herb. The tea maker, headquartered in the southern Vietnamese province of Tay Ninh, 100km from Ho Chi Minh City, is the first Vietnamese private company to receive the award. The IUFoST is a voluntary, non-profit federation of national food science organizations. The country-member organization seeks to promote the advancement of global food science and technology, and to foster the worldwide exchange of scientific knowledge and ideas through the biennial World Congress.
