Police in Ho Chi Minh City’s District 12 are offering cash reward for citizens helping purge the area of sex crimes, according to local officials.

Those who provide essential information that helps police investigate crimes related to prostitution, prostitution brokerage, and human trafficking will be rewarded with cash worth between VND2 million (US$90) and VND5 million ($225), officials said.

The statement is a part of the “For a Peaceful District 12” program recently launched by local authorities.

The program aims to encourage residents to engage in fighting crime and securing the community, local officials explained, adding that praises and rewards will be offered to agencies, organizations, or individuals that lend a hand in crime prevention in the district.

The funds for the rewards program will be sourced from the sponsorship and support of agencies, organizations, individuals, and other financial means.

Specifically, those who provide key details that aid police in investigating criminal acts and financial crimes, as well as those who catch somebody red-handed, will be rewarded.

The program also aims to award between VND2 million and VND5million to citizens who give tip-offs about individuals, organizations, and publications that carry propaganda threatening national security or that can be perceived as anti-government.

Those reporting theft or catch individuals red-handed mugging, robbing, or stealing will be rewarded with VND1 million ($45) to VND5 million.

Anyone who provides essential information that helps police investigate crimes related to prostitution, prostitution brokerage, human trafficking, gambling, or acts of producing, storing, delivering, and trafficking illegal drugs will be rewarded with between VND2 million and VND5 million.

Those who supply essential information that helps police discover cases related to economic violations, producing contaminated food, polluting the environment, and using banned chemicals in raising livestock and horticulture will be rewarded with between VND2 million and VND3million ($134.4).

Police officers who directly participate in capturing thieves, robbers, and the like, or officers who discover criminal cases, financial crime, drug trafficking, and other cases will be recognized and rewarded, the district’s leaders said.
