Hanoi police put a local 34-year-old man in custody on Thursday for alleged child molestation.
Cao Manh Hung was arrested after investigative police gathered enough information to charge him for conducting lewd acts upon T.Y.N., an eight-year-old female neighbor in Hoang Maid District, according to officers.
On January 10, N.T.L., the girl’s mother, filed a complaint to police that Hung had been harassing her daughter.
According to the complaint, L. first became aware of the issue while bathing her daughter on January 8, when the little girl exhibited some abnormal behaviors and complained of pains in her pelvic area.
When the mother pressed the girl to explain what was wrong, she was shocked to hear that N. had been sexually abused.
According to the child’s account, she was playing with other neighborhood children in an alley outside her uncle’s house at 7:30 pm on January 8 when Hung showed up and asked to join in the game.
When the other children were not paying attention, Hung carried N. into a nearby alley and began to abuse her.
Upon hearing cries for help, the other children rushed to the scene, using brooms and sandals to fend off the attacker.
N. and the other children were able to return to the alley and continue their game before Hung returned to carry N. away and harass her one more time.
The man only gave up after being splashed with water by the child’s friends.
Hanoi police launched a probe into the case on March 13 and arrested Hung only four days into the investigation.
On Thursday, prosecutors in the southern province of Ba Ria-Vung Tau also filed charges against a man accused of conducting lewd acts on seven different children.
