Boasting a total durian cultivation area of 11,345 hectares, Dong Nai Province is considered the southern region’s durian growing hub.
Over the past few years, the province has enhanced its efforts to earn durian planting area codes, and build packaging facilities to bring its durians to the Chinese market.
Until now, the province is home to six packaging factories and 11 durian growing area codes of a combined 820 hectares.
Some 20,000 metric tons of durians in Dong Nai Province are eligible for entering the Chinese market.
The official export of Dong Nai-planted durians to China is expected to stabilize the consumption of the fruit in Dong Nai Province, and raise farmers’ income.
The province is moving towards sustainable agricultural development by employing high technology to beef up the yield of farming products, including durians, said Vo Van Phi, vice chairman of the Dong Nai administration.
As such, Phi expects the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development, and other relevant ministries and agencies to back the province’s farming development, while calling on enterprises to boost their investment in science and technology in production to enhance the quality of farm produce; and further tap the farming industry in the province to ship more farming products to the global market.
Vietnam has exported eight fruits, including mango, dragon fruit, longan, lychee, watermelon, rambutan, jackfruit and durian, to China, according to a representative of the Dong Nai Province People’s Committee.
Dong Nai Province alone has shipped mangoes, jackfruits, dragon fruits, and rambutans to China, the United States, Europe, Australia and New Zealand.
