Vietnam’s Binh Phuoc gives nod to $911mn alumina production project

The People’s Committee of Binh Phuoc Province in southern Vietnam has granted investment approval to an alumina processing and production project worth nearly VND22.8 trillion (US$911 million).
The project will span approximately 300 hectares across Nghia Binh, Nghia Trung, Thong Nhat, and Duc Lieu Communes in Bu Dang District.
It is designed to produce about two million metric tons of alumina annually, with an operational lifespan of 30 years. Construction is expected to take five years.
Binh Phuoc Ore Exploitation and Beneficiation JSC has been approved as the investor and will be responsible for land compensation, resettlement, and securing necessary land use permits.
The provincial administration mandated the use of advanced technology to ensure environmental safety, including strict adherence to environmental protection measures and dam safety regulations to prevent potential incidents.
The investor was also required to collaborate with local authorities to maintain security and order in the mining areas, prioritize local employment, offer vocational training, and implement social welfare programs for affected residents.
Once mining operations finish, the company must rehabilitate the land and return it to the province for future production activities.
