Vietnam’s national flag carrier Vietnam Airlines on Sunday announced the launch of direct flights between Ho Chi Minh City and Denpasar, the capital city of Bali, Indonesia, starting in June, within the framework of General Secretary of the Communist Party of Vietnam Central Committee To Lam's state visit to Indonesia.
As planned, the airline will start operating the new route with a frequency of four round-trip flights per week, scheduled for Wednesdays, Thursdays, Saturdays, and Sundays, on June 1.
Beginning in July, the air carrier will increase the frequency to seven round-trip flights per week.
It will use the Airbus A321 aircraft to operate these flights, offering a comfortable and convenient flying experience for passengers.
The new air route will be Vietnam Airlines’ second direct connection between Vietnam and Indonesia, bringing the airline’s total number of weekly flights between the two countries to 14.
This new service is expected to boost cooperation between the two nations, with the tourism sector set to see greater growth in the coming years.
Over the past few years, the number of tourists traveling from Indonesia to Vietnam has surged, while Vietnam has emerged as a potential tourist source market for Indonesia.
Dang Ngoc Hoa, chairman of Vietnam Airlines, said that the airline was committed to opening more direct air routes linking the two nations in the future.
It will boost cooperation with airlines and partners in the Indonesian market, as well as increase flight frequency and enhance service quality to suit passengers’ demands.
At the event, Vietnam Airlines also signed a memorandum of understanding with the Association of Indonesian Travel Agents (ASTINDO) to foster tourism collaboration between the two nations.
The Indonesian tourism market has long been regarded as one of the largest in Southeast Asia, with the country ranking fourth globally in terms of population.
In 2024, the total air traffic between Vietnam and Indonesia reached over 800,000 passengers, marking a 61-percent surge compared to 2019.
To mark the launch of the new route, Vietnam Airlines is offering a special promotion program on round-trip fares starting at VND4.5 million (US$176), including taxes and fees.
The promotion is available for Ho Chi Minh City - Denpasar flights departing between June 1 and 15, while tickets can be purchased from now until March 30.
Party chief Lam, his spouse Ngo Phuong Ly, and a high-ranking delegation of Vietnam arrived at Halim Perdanakusuma Airport in Jakarta on Sunday afternoon, commencing a state visit to Indonesia and an official visit to the ASEAN Secretariat based in the country until Tuesday.
