Vietnam’s automobile market recorded robust growth in February, with over 21,600 units sold, marking an 86-percent year-on-year surge, according to the Vietnam Automobile Manufacturers' Association.

The sales figure also reflected a 14-percent rise from January.

Sales of locally assembled vehicles reached 11,067 units, up 21 percent month on month, while nearly 10,540 completely built-up vehicles were sold, representing an eight-percent month-on-month increase.

Vietnamese electric vehicle (EV) manufacturer VinFast continued its strong performance, reporting sales of over 12,500 EVs in February, a 25-percent month-on-month rise.

This figure was four times higher than Toyota Vietnam’s 3,114 units, making VinFast the market leader.

The VinFast VF 3 stood out as the best-selling car in February, with more than 5,200 units sold.

The automaker also dominated the rankings, with its VF 5 and VF 6 models securing the second and third spots, respectively.

Thanh Cong (TC) Group, which assembles and distributes Hyundai vehicles in Vietnam, saw a slight decline in sales, delivering 3,022 units in February.

No Hyundai model exceeded 500 units in sales, including the Hyundai Accent, which recorded only 455 units, keeping it off the list of the best-selling vehicles for the month.

The A-segment also saw a shift, as the Toyota Wigo overtook the Hyundai Grand i10.

Wigo registered 334 units sold, compared to 216 units for the Grand i10.

In the B-segment, the Toyota Vios reclaimed the top position after slipping to third place in January.

Meanwhile, the B/B+ SUV/CUV category saw significant changes, with the debut of the VinFast VF 6.

Nearly 2,000 units of the model were sold, pushing the Mitsubishi Xforce down to second place with 433 units sold.
