Asia Foundation encourages Vietnam kids to read English books

Asia Foundation encourages Vietnam kids to read English books

Monday, June 02, 2014, 21:08 GMT+7

The Asia Foundation in collaboration with the Ho Chi Minh City General Sciences Library and the National Library of Vietnam have recently handed 1,500 children English books to 15 libraries of elementary schools in the southern city on the occasion of the Children’s Day (June 1).

The book-giving is part of the foundation’s project to provide English books for elementary schools across Vietnam during the 2012-2015 period.

Fifteen Ho Chi Minh City schools receiving the books were chosen based on the criterion that the schools’ libraries have to work well and have activities to inspire the children to read.

On the book-giving ceremony on June 1 at the Ho Chi Minh City General Sciences Library, the library also conducted activities to encourage the habit of reading, including a story-telling contest, an environment-themed painting competition, and an exhibition featuring the given books.
