The central coastal city of Da Nang will begin teaching German at two middle schools within this academic year, which began early this month.

The German Consulate General in Ho Chi Minh City and the Da Nang Department of Education and Training on Tuesday signed an agreement on launching the project of teaching German language courses run by the Cen¬tral Agen¬cy for Ger¬man Schools Abroad (ZfA).

The project will be implemented at Tran Quy Cap and Nguyen Thien Thuat Middle Schools in Cam Le District.

Under this project, each grade from 6th to 9th at the schools will have one class in which students will be taught the German language by native speakers as well as Vietnamese teachers trained by the ZfA.

Students will have four German classes per week.

The ZfA will provide equipment including projectors, computers, screens, bookcases, books, and air conditioners for the schools.

The German agency has also promised to organize summer camps for those students studying the German language, run training courses for teachers, and look for scholarships for both the teachers and students.

Established at the Federal Office of Administration in 1968, the Central Agency for German Schools Abroad has supported over 1,200 schools worldwide, including more than 140 German schools abroad and approximately 1,100 schools in the respective educational system in which the German Language Certificate can be acquired, the office said on its website.
