Around 60 high school students studying French in Ho Chi Minh City gathered at an education session held by the French Consulate General on Tuesday to promote French cooking courses in Ho Chi Minh City and France.

The event, focusing on hospitality, hotel management, and tourism training, gathered representatives of two training programs in Ho Chi Minh City offered by local colleges in collaboration with French institutes.

One of them is the International Hospitality Management School Vatel in collaboration with Hoa Sen University and the other is from a partnership between the University of Technology (HUTECH) and University of Cergy-Pontoise.

At the event, the students had the opportunity to get to know about the schools’ programs as well as gain experience from former students and those who had studied in France.

Also, they were able to witness students studying at those schools perform how to make French dishes at the event.

Talking with Tuoi Tre News at the event, Vatel Vietnam’s Dean of Studies Nguyen Thi Quynh Giang explained her appreciation of Vietnamese students’ compared to students from other countries.

“Vietnamese students are very eager to learn”, Giang commented.

“International students have an advantage of already knowing about European cuisine while many Vietnamese students have never been to a Western restaurant when they sign up for the school, so they have to try very hard.”

“However, at the end of their education, Vietnamese students show no sign of being inferior to students from other countries,” she added.

The education session was part of this year’s French food fest Goût de France, which has the participation of 2,000 restaurants and 150 French embassies worldwide.

During the festival, diners will be served simultaneously at participating restaurants on March 21, honoring the merits of French cuisine, its capacity for innovation, and its values: sharing, enjoying, and respecting the principles of high-quality, environmentally responsible cuisine.

In Ho Chi Minh City, the event was held in the form of a paid dinner at the Residence of French, hosted by the Consul General of the French Republic Emmanuel Ly-Batallan with 140 invited guests, as well as eight other restaurants.
