Inside one of Vietnam’s most modern libraries

The newly inaugurated Ton Duc Thang University library in Ho Chi Minh City is designed to inspire students with its state-of-the-art equipment.

Covering a floor area of over 8,700 square meters in District 7, the INSPIRE Library at Ton Duc Thang University cost VND129 billion (US$5.68 million) to build.

The library was designed by the university’s own students and professors and boasts some of Vietnam’s most modern equipment and creativity-provoking spaces.

Each of the library’s seven floors is painted a different color, embodying the virtues of endurance, nisus, sagacity, progress, initiative, responsibility and excellence that the university seeks to develop among its students.

The INSPIRE Library hosts a cutting-edge automated system of library management, with online directories of each book’s status available on computers scattered throughout the facility.

Students can return their borrowed books by using a machine that automatically scans the books' barcodes and registers them in the database.

The library is equipped with a book sterilizer to rid borrowed books of bacteria before they are sorted back into the library.

Reading spaces in the library are organized in a spontaneous manner that does not conform to any rule, with the aim of provoking creativity among library goers.

Multiple specialized rooms for presentation, individual research, group study and film screening are also available inside the library to meet the different needs of students and professors.

There are currently over 115,000 book titles available at the INSPIRE Library, which was inaugurated on Saturday.
