In the year 2016-2017, the British International School Hanoi had a successful and memorable academic year with excellent results in IGCSE & A Levels by its senior students.

These achievements have granted BIS Hanoi students access to the very best universities worldwide, including Ivy League schools in the United States and the Russell Group in the United Kingdom.

The IGCSE (International General Certificate of Secondary Education) is an internationally-respected qualification studied by students aged 14-16 years old.

Valued by employers and universities, it covers a broad range of core subjects including languages, humanities, social sciences, mathematics, and creative, technical and vocational disciplines.

It is one of the most academically challenging qualifications currently on offer to 14-16 year old students worldwide and provides a foundation for learners to prepare for the International Baccalaureate Diploma Program (IBDP) and A Levels.

In some countries, students having IGCSE certificates can be admitted directly to colleges and universities without completing an IBDP or A Level program.

The A Level (Advanced Level) is studied by students aged 16-19 years old. The programme generally takes two years to complete and is split into two parts.

Most of students study three or four subjects and choose to take a final exam in three subjects at the end of the second year.

The A Level curriculum aims to develop comprehensive and insightful understanding of various topics, building critical thinking skills and enabling students to prepare for higher education.

In the 2016-2017 school year, BIS Hanoi students achieved extraordinary IGCSE and A Level examination results from Cambridge.

- Forty-seven percent of all IGCSE grades achieved by BIS Hanoi students were at the highest levels of A* or A. This is 27 percent higher than the 2017 UK average of 20 percent.

- Thirty-five percent of all A Level grades achieved by BIS Hanoi students were at the highest levels of A* or A, which is much higher than the 2017 UK average of 26.3 percent.
