Vietnam has claimed two silver medals at the World Skills Competition 2022, an international vocational skill competition, according to Nguyen Chi Truong, head of the Vocational Skills Department under the Directorate of Vocational Education and Training.

In particular, Nguyen Thanh Tung and Nguyen Xuan Thai, who are both 23 years old and from the DENSO Training Academy in Hanoi, brought home the silver medals in Computer Numerical Controlled (CNC) Milling and CNC Turning, respectively.

Truong told Tuoi Tre (Youth) newspaper that this is the best result of the Vietnamese team at this competition.

“The competition this year will last until the end of November, so the Vietnamese team still has opportunities to win more medals, especially in electrical installation,” Truong added.

According to the organizer, the CNC Milling category attracts contestants from 22 countries. Chujie Zhou from China secured the gold medal and Kosei Yamashita of the Japanese team won the bronze medal.

In CNC Turning, the gold medal was awarded to Hongyu Wu from China and the silver medals were given to three contestants, including Thai from Vietnam and two others from Japan and Thailand.

The WorldSkills Competition, which is held every two years, is considered the largest global playground for vocational students.

The competition is as prestigious as the Olympiad contests in math, physics, chemistry, and biology.

The 46th WorldSkills Competition was repeatedly postponed over the past two years due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

The organizer later decided to organize a special edition for the 46th competition, taking place in many countries in October and November this year.

The competition this year attracts more than 1,000 contestants and 1,000 experts from 63 countries and territories. Contestants compete in 62 skill competitions.

According to the Directorate of Vocational Education and Training under the Ministry of Labor, War Invalids, and Social Affairs, Vietnam sent 11 contestants to compete in 10 skill competitions, consisting of mechatronics, cloud computing, information network cabling, water technology, mechanical installation, CNC milling, CNC turning, CAD mechanical engineering design, information technology software solutions, and hair design.

The Vietnamese team will compete in six countries, including Germany, France, Austria, Finland, Japan, and South Korea.

Vietnam took part in the WorldSkills Competition in 2007 for the first time.

In every competition, the Southeast Asian country received excellent vocational skill certificates.

In 2019, Vietnam won the first silver medal in CNC milling at the competition, which was held in Kazan, Russia.
