Police in Tien Giang Province’s My Tho City are investigating a case in which a man carried two coffins to the house of a police major, left them in front of the house, and left. The incident occurred at about 12 pm on Saturday when a man pedaled a tricycle van carrying the coffins to Ho Van Nhanh Street in the city’s Ward 5 and asked locals for the home address of Major Ho Van Phuoc. After getting the information, the man drove the vehicle to the front of Phuoc’s house and parked it there, much to the astonishment of local residents. One of the locals asked him about the coffins and he said, “A woman called a coffin shop asking for urgent delivery of two caskets to Phuoc’s house.” The man did not reveal where the shop is located. The strange incident drew the attention of curious people who flocked to the house to look at the coffins. Amidst the tumult caused by the crowd, the man left the scene. At this time, Phuoc was on duty at the Ward 5 police office and he later was informed about the incident by a neighbor. At 3 pm, local police arrived at the house to disband the crowd, seal up the coffins, and remove them, along with the tricycle van, to their office for investigation. The Ward 5 police later convened an urgent meeting to discuss the case and try to identify those who were involved.

Tuoi Tre contacted Phuoc and he simply said, “Maybe someone has delivered [the coffins] to a wrong address,” and gave no further comment on the case.

Meanwhile, an official at the city police department later told Tuoi Tre that police had found out who was the culprit of the incident but wanted to keep it secret for the sake of investigation.
