Acts that "kill" Nhieu Loc-Thi Nghe canal

Monday, September 24, 2012, 14:50 GMT+7

The Nhieu Loc-Thi Nghe canal in Ho Chi Minh City is being upgraded, but many people continue to act unfriendly towards it, as well as the environment in general.

The first phase of upgrading the canal was inaugurated about ten days ago, but many locals still randomly throw various rubbish into the waterway. Such acts may kill the canal in the future if they are not prevented, as shown in the following photos taken by Tuoi Tre recently:

At 10 am every day, a man carries used items like TV sets, refrigerators, and washing machines on his motorbike to the Le Van Sy Bridge in Ward 9, District 3. The man puts these old items up for sale there.
He disassembles some electronic items to get appliances or scraps for sale. After that, he freely throws anything that became redundant into the canal.
At 4:30 pm September 18, this man, in a uniform, disposed rubbish into the canal in its section in Ward 13, Phu Nhuan District
At 9 am on September 18, a tricycle left this garbage on the pavement along the canal in Ward 13, District 3
After that, two young men who work for a building material establishment nearby put debris into the canal.
At 12 pm on September 19, a man wearing a uniform of the HCMC Bridge and Ferry Co Ltd poured a bucket of refuse into the canal, under the Le Van Sy Bridge in District 3
