A drunken man climbed to the top of the statue of Vietnamese famous General Tran Nguyen Han in front of Ben Thanh market based in Ho Chi Minh City on Oct. 06, attracting large crowds of curiosity seekers.
Eyewitnesses said the man walked towards Quach Thi Trang roundabout in District 1 where the bronze statue is situated and climbed stairs to reach the top when he waved his hands to greet people around.
About 15 minutes later, the 43-year-old Pham Van Binh, a native in district 4, continued to shock onlookers underneath by sitting and laying on the pigeon statue on the general's hand.
Local police and firefighters brought air-mattress and staircase to the scene and ordered Binh to get out of the statue.
Afterwards, Binh, who has been taken to Ben Thanh police station for questioning, jumped from 20 meter high into the air-mattress safely.
Tran Nguyen Han statue is a monument in Quach Thi Trang Square in the city’s center built to commemorate General Tran Nguyen Han, a famed general in the Lam Son uprising, 1418-1428, one of the greatest historical events in Vietnamese history.
