This is a three-member family. The father and the son have brittle bone disease (Osteogenesis Imperfecta - OI) and the 17-year-old daughter Dang Thi Tuyet is carrying the whole family burden on her frail shoulders.
Every day for the past ten years, the trio has traveled far distances and gone through crowded and populated streets in Saigon on an old rusted wheel chair pushed by the father’s OI hands to sell lottery tickets for a meager livelihood.
Tuyet and her 13-year-old brother Tien smile happily when someone calls them to buy tickets or when a neighbor gives them a bowl of soup.
After selling out 180 lottery tickets per day, they go back to their rented room when Tuyet has time to indulge her burning passion for modern dance.
Despite having led a hard life, the father and his two children remain optimistic about their future. In this photo, their big smiles are spotted along a street in HCMC.
The two siblings share a lunch on Nguyen Kiem Street, Phu Nhuan District.
They wear radiant smiles on their faces when someone buys their lottery tickets.
At night fall, the father Dang Thanh Tri, 47, repairs watches to earn some extra money.
Tuyet practices dancing at home and her father and brother are her first spectators.
In her wish to be a dancer, Tuyet attends a dance class held at Thanh Da cultural house in Binh Thanh district.
For Tuyet, housework and cooking is a daily chore.
