An 85-year-old man and his elderly wife in Ben Tre Province in the Mekong Delta have been lovingly tending to his 113-year-old mother over the past dozens of years.
Over the years, Nguyen Van Duc and his 75-year-old wife, Pham Thi Tru, in Thanh Phu District have wholeheartedly taken care of Duc’s mother, Tran Thi Nguy, who was born in 1901.
Whenever she feels good, 85-year-old Nguyen Van Duc’s 113-year-old mother (first right) asks him to carry her on his back to say hello to people in their neighborhood.
Despite his senior age, Duc, Nguy’s youngest child, takes charge of most household chores, including working on the field and caring for his decrepit mother.
After tending to his mother, Nguyen Van Duc, 85, rides his bike to his paddy field, where he works until late afternoon.
At 85, Duc (right) remains fit enough to chop wood.
His daily routines include riding his bike to the local market for food, fetching herbal medicine, drying and preparing it for his family and neighbors to use, and even chopping wood.

At around 11:00 am every day, Duc spoon-feeds his mother before working on his paddy field some 1km from home until late afternoon.
