Police have detained a 22-year-old man from Ho Chi Minh City for blackmailing his girlfriend over a sex tape. He was caught red-handed on Wednesday receiving VND200,000 (just US$10) and a cell phone.

Before the arrest, Vu Hoang Hai Thinh of Tan Binh district had sex with Ms P. (a 19 year old from Phu Nhuan district) at a hotel in Go Vap district. Police said Thinh had asked for P’s permission to videotape them making love as a memento.

But after this, he used the clip to blackmail P. for money. He threatened to post the footage on the Internet if she failed to pay.

P. informed the police, and while Thinh was receiving the ransom ($10 and a cell phone) at Hoang Van Thu Park in Phu Nhuan district, he was caught and arrested.
