A Vietnamese tourist had to provide US$12,000 to a foreign family after he had enthusiastically offered to help their son learn how to hit a golf ball.
On August 11 the man, who is known simply as H., was walking at the Diamond Bay Resort & Spa in Nha Trang when he saw Victor Dvoynikov, a Russian tourist, and his son Stepan practicing basic golf skills.
After hearing the 14-year-old boy complaining that golf is a difficult sport to play, H. offered to teach him basic strokes.
H. grabbed a club, and during one swing he carelessly hit Stepan in the face, breaking six of his teeth and severely injuring other areas.
The boy was immediately taken to a hospital.
On Wednesday, H. pledged to pay Dvoynikov $12,000 (VND252.43 million) in compensation, which the family agreed to, said local police.
The Dvoynikovs boarded a plane to return to Russia that same evening.
