The Asia Book of Records on Thursday recognized that an 83-year-old Vietnamese man has set a new Asian record as an elderly person who has four times conquered the 3,143-meter-high Mount Fansipan in northern Vietnam. The record holder is Huynh Van Rang, who successfully climbed to the top of the mountain, which is called “the Roof of Indochina,” on June 12, 2014 , the Vietnam Book of Records (Vietkings) reported yesterday.  A day later, the Hoang Lien Ecological Tourism and Environmental Education Center, under the Hoang Lien National Park, recognized his exploit. The mount, which belongs to the Hoang Lien Son mountain range, is located nine km southwest of Lao Cai province’s Sa Pa town. It is dubbed the Roof of Indochina as it is the highest mountain in Indochina that comprises Laos, Cambodia and Vietnam.  Before the recognition of the Asia Book of Records, Rang had successfully climbed to the top of Fansipan three times since 2007 to win the Vietnamese record as an elderly who has three times set foot on the top of the Roof of Indochina. The first time was on June 27, 2007 and the two other times were on May 3, 2010 and June 19, 2013.

Last year he was also honored as the first elderly man in Vietnam to twice conquer the 16-meter top of a manmade mountain in the Phan Dinh Phung Sports and Gymnastics Center in Ho Chi Minh City.

Rang was born on November 7, 1931 in Lai Thieu town, Thuan An District, southern Binh Duong Province.

Despite his age, Rang is still in good condition thanks to a proper diet and regular and moderate physical activities.
