The ‘Noi Soi’ (Inside of the Body) collection, including 11 pictures skillfully created from X-ray, CT-scan and MRI images by artist Doan Hoang Lam, has been on display by Mai Gallery at Hanoi’s Art Talk Café.

Via these pictures, artist Doan Hoang Lam has transmitted his views about the contradiction between inside and outside, real and unreal, innocent and guilty, tragedy and comedy, and people and machines, as well as sent to viewers a message: “Looking inside everything is actually looking inside ourselves.”

This idea came to him naturally when he had an X-ray and saw inside of his body for the first time. People look at themselves everyday but they rarely understand both their body structure and their inner feelings.

Therefore, looking ‘inside the body’ is not only just the artist’s concern but also the concern of everyone, and creating art is actually looking back to our inner world.

Pieces of human X-ray, CT-scan and MRI images were joined to form 11 pictures of ‘X-ray’ gentlemen, ‘CT-scan’ ladies, and machines and animals with human lung images on them. They are not rich or poor, gentle or rude people anymore. They are all exposing their bodies as well as their honest souls, which have both respectable and disreputable aspects, regardless of who they are.

The collection is a totally new look for Doan Hoang Lam on the way to return to his own self and to find out who he is.
