A free concert featuring six Vietnamese musicians from the Southeast Asian Youth Chamber Orchestra (SEAYCO) is set to take place in Hanoi on June 16, while another given by celebrated French Champs – Elysees will also be held tonight.
The SEAYCO concert, which will be held at the Hanoi Goethe-Institut, 56-58 Nguyen Thai Hoc st, Ba Dinh district, will feature Vietnamese violists La Diem My and Hoang Ho Khanh Van, cellist Tran Hong Nhung, flutist Nguyen Thi Huyen Trang, oboist Pham Khanh Toan and French hornist Nguyen Tuan Long. Most of them are studying at the Vietnam National Academy of Music.
The young artists have designed a show with diverse content, including Baroque, pop, and works by world-famous composer such as Marcello’s “Concert D-Moll for Oboe”; Vivaldi’s “Concert for Flute, Oboe and Basso continuo”; Shchedrin’s “In the Style of Albenitz”; Varlamov’s “The Red Sarafan”; Lovland’s “You raise me up”; Beethoven’s “Three Duos for Violin and Cello: Nr.1” and Brahms’ “Scherzo in c-Moll for Violin and Piano.”
SEAYCO, founded in August 2012 on the mutual initiative of the Goethe-Institut Southeast Asia and prestigious Thailand’s Mahidol College of Music in Salaya, picked 25 young musical talents from six Southeast Asian countries, namely Thailand, Vietnam, the Philippines, Indonesia, Myanmar and Malaysia.
Under the baton of Nicolás Pasquet, professor at the Liszt School of Music Weimar (Germany), SEAYCO debuted with its first concerts in Thailand and Myanmar in October.
Meanwhile, the Champs – Elysees symphony orchestra, one of France’s famed ones, will also give a free concert at the Hanoi Opera House at 8pm on June 15.
Conductor Alessandro Moccia will direct 33 artists in performing the entrancing works by revered composers H. J. Rigel and Mozart.
The program is part of the activities to commemorate the 40th anniversary of the Vietnam – France diplomatic ties.
