“UK Concert”, under the baton of UK conductor Colin Metters, is set to take place in Hanoi on Nov 21 and 22.

The concert, which marks the 40th anniversary of diplomatic ties between Vietnam and the UK, will be held at Hanoi Opera House at 8pm on Nov 21 and 22.

Under his baton, the Vietnam National Orchestra will perform works by H. Berlioz, E. Elgar and P. I. Tchaikovsky.

Metters is the first British man ever to be conferred a medal by the Vietnamese government for his contributions to the country’s art scene in 1999.

Metters is Professor of Conducting at the Royal Academy of Music in London. He founded the Conductors' Course in 1983 and under his direction the course has earned the international recognition as one of the world's foremost conductor training programs.

The “UK Concert” also features Guy Johnston, one of British leading cellists, who will be performing E. Elgar’s works. Johnston is winner of the BBC Young Musician of the Year award in 2000. He has subsequently established his name in the international arena as a soloist and chamber musician.
