The love chess for couples

The love chess for couples

After a year of collecting and studying various kinds of chess, Tran Quoc Cuong in southern Soc Trang province invented the “Heart chess” and “Star chess”, which increasingly appeal to youths, particularly couples, for the novelty, innovativeness and romance involved.

Cuong, 30, a farmer in Ke Sach district, is in deep love with chess. He has devised the two new kinds of chess, which were patented by the Vietnam Copyright Office in July 2013 and are highly appreciated by chess grandmaster Pham Bich Ngoc.

Cuong said that the idea suddenly crossed his mind when his friend’s girl relentlessly urged him to go home while the two men were playing chess. Cuong then came up with the idea of making love chess, which allows couples to enjoy playing chess and each other’s company at the same time.

Cuong’s “Heart chess” comprises of a chessboard which has 10 rows and 10 columns. The rows and columns generate 100 cells, in which the empty cells and the cells with small hearts are interposed.

Each player has 16 chesspieces, which are painted in red and yellow, including two hearts, two kisses, 14 letters, four arrows and four lightning strokes. Hearts are the most important chesspieces which can move one cell and freely take the opponents.

Cuong’s heart chess is similar to “co nhay” (hopping chess), in which the opponent’s chesspiece will be taken if there’s an empty cell behind it and this cell will also be occupied.

Apart from “Heart chess”, Cuong also invented “Star chess”, which includes simulations of troops, amphibious vehicles and ships. Cuong is hopeful that “Star chess” will appeal to players because of its drastic moves right at the beginning.

Local youths, particularly kids, find Cuong’s new chess captivating and emotional. He sold quite many during last year’s Valentine’s Day.

“Cuong’s heart and star chess are indeed innovative, humanitarian and fun. His dedication to invent the chess norm and his plan to use the project to help physically-challenged people is praiseworthy,” commented chess grandmaster Ngoc.

The bumpkin inventor also hopes to find partners or have loans to launch his own chess making business and provide jobs for local physically-challenged people.
