Vietnam’s ‘So You Think You Can Dance’ finals to feature more foreign choreographers

Saturday, October 18, 2014, 12:34 GMT+7

More than half of the dance routines to be performed in the final round of the third Vietnamese season of American reality show “So You Think You Can Dance” will be constructed by foreign choreographers, the show organizer announced Wednesday in a press conference.

Up to 60 percent of the contending performances in the show’s final round will be directed by foreign choreographers, including the two previous seasons’ fixtures such as Hani Abaza, to enhance the contestants’ skills and the dances’ quality, said Nguyen Hai, the show’s production director.

The new choreographers are mostly those who have established their names during the different seasons of the original show.

At the Wednesday press conference in Ho Chi Minh City, American dancers Kathryn McCormick and Robert Roldan, who placed third in the sixth and seventh seasons of the American show respectively, expressed their admiration for the young Vietnamese contestants’ passion for dancing and support for one another.

The two dancers are set to perform solo and in pairs at the Vietnamese version’s gala, which will take place at Maximark Cong Hoa Sports Hall at 15-17 Cong Hoa Street, Tan Binh District at 9:00 pm on Saturday night.

The gala will be aired live on Ho Chi Minh City Television channel HTV7.

McCormick is a famed American contemporary dancer and actress.

She starred in “Step Up Revolution” – an American 3D dance film and the fourth installment of the “Step Up” film series.
