Japan Festival 2014 - “Cool Japan”, part of the bilateral cultural exchange between Vietnam and Japan, has been launched at 23-9 Park in District 1, Ho Chi Minh City

The two-day event, which will wrap up on Sunday night, has lured both local and foreign tourists to the area to enjoy folk dances, Cosplay performances, and traditional Japanese cuisine.

Moreover, the event has also been joined by nearly 70 units and organizations, including 40 companies from Japan and 10 Japanese companies operating in Vietnam like electronic giant Canon.

They brought to the festival a variety of products in various fields, from education, tourism and foodstuff to handicrafts and electronics.

Speaking at the opening ceremony, Ho Xuan Son, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs, said the relationship between Vietnam and Japan has been developing well, helping to increase people-to-people exchanges in society and culture, according to the Vietnam News Agency.

The Japan Festival was organized for the first time in 2013 on the occasion of the 40th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Vietnam and Japan, attracting up to 65,000 visitors.

Trade relations between Vietnam and Japan are growing with the number of Japanese-invested projects in 2013 tripling that in 2010 to 1,500 projects. The amount of investment also increased significantly by more than 2 times to around $5.9 billion.

As of April 2014, the number of existing Japanese firms in Vietnam were 1,299 enterprises, as Vietnam is one of the country attracting the most Japanese investment among ASEAN countries, said Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Son.
