Thanks to the development of photography technology, people can easily own a camera and produce beautiful photos of things around them.

Renowned Vietnamese landscape photographer Hoang The Nhiem once exclaimed, “it seems that everyone now has cameras!”

Several websites like vnphoto.net, tinhte.vn and saigonphoto.net have offered playgrounds to exchange for many photographers in Vietnam, from professionals to amateurs.

Photo lovers have also gathered in groups to travel across the country and capture beautiful pictures together.

On the occasion of Tet, Tuoi Tre (Youth) newspaper honorably introduces several gorgeous photos of Saigon and the feelings of those who took them.

Tet, which is the Vietnamese term for the Lunar New Year festival, falls on February 19.

The pagoda, located in District 5, Ho Chi Minh City is one of the oldest in the city. Many religious activities have been organized here during special occasions, especially the Tet holiday. At the beginning of the Lunar New Year, many dragon dance troupes come here before touring the city to perform.

Pham An Duong is a well-known member of vnphoto.net. He works for the marketing department of a technology company.

“Photography is a passion for me and I take pictures whenever I have the chance,” Duong said.

Thanh Tung, also known as Tung Tin, is studying in the Faculty of Journalism and Communications of the University of Social Sciences and Humanities under the National University – Ho Chi Minh City.

“I took this picture at 4:30 am on April 6, 2014 at the Saigon Notre-Dame Cathedral in District 1,” Tung said of his photo.

“Saigon was covered with strange quietness early on that Sunday morning, which is way different from its daily bustle as the country’s most crowded city. The sound from the sweeper’s bamboo broom echoing in the air combined with his moves created an impressive dance in my mind.”

“I love seeing the city from up high, it’s amazing since you can view the whole city as well as see stunning scenes we can’t see when we are on the ground,” Tung said.

“In this picture, I saw the Nhieu Loc Canal curling like a dragon lying in the middle of the city. The stretch in the photo is the part crossing the Kieu Bridge dividing District 1 and Phu Nhuan District.”

“I was going past Ben Thanh Market when I found a puddle after rain. The reflected image of the 100-year-old market looks really interesting in the picture,” Ho said.

“I took this picture on the occasion of last year’s Tet holiday at Nguyen Thai Binh Condominium [in District 1]. I once passed the place and was impressed by this angle. I then came back one afternoon to take this picture.”

“I think such an image combining the past – the old condominium – and the present – the gorgeous Bitexco skyscraper right in the middle of the downtown city – will no longer exist over time.”

Jet Huynh, whose real name is Huynh Thu, 38, is an informatics businessman whose passion is night exposure photography, especially that about Saigon.

“The picture’s characters are Phuc and Long, members of the U-10 soccer team of District 2. They are seen playing on a rainwater-flooded yard one day in September 2014. Vietnam’s soccer position is quite low in the world, but Vietnamese people’s passion for the ball has amazed international experts. The bright background behind the two kids makes me think of a brighter future for Vietnamese soccer,” Cuong told of his photo.

The picture was chosen as a Daily Photo by NatGeo on September 15, 2014.

Tran Lam Anh Cuong, 41, is a computer engineer. He said that since he was not born in Saigon, he loves traveling around the city to explore its dynamic and friendly traits.
