“Carmen,” the world famous opera from France, will be performed twice in Ho Chi Minh City this month, organizers said in a press release on Monday.

The work by late composer Georges Bizet is scheduled to be staged at 8:00 pm on November 8 and 9 at the Municipal Theater in District 1.

The opera, written by Henri Meilhac and Ludovic Halevy is based on the novel of the same name by Prosper Mérimée, tells the story of the downfall of Don José, a naïve soldier who is seduced by the charm of the fiery gypsy, Carmen.

“Carmen” is one of the most popular and frequently-performed operas in the classical canon, according to the Ho Chi Minh City Ballet Symphony Orchestra (HBSO) whose artists will also take part in the opera.

The concert is jointly organized by HBSO and the La Fabrique Opera.

Music lovers can buy tickets at the Municipal Theater with prices ranging from VND150,000 (US$7) to VND800,000 ($37).
